Thanks to Grant's mom having some travel vouchers, we got to fly to Texas instead of making the long drive. Our flight left Midway in Chicago early Friday morning, so we started the trip in the middle of the night. Grant drove, since he'd normally be awake then anyway, and I slept. I worked a lot of extra hours the previous week, so I pretty much slept any time we got in a car the whole trip. We got to the airport right on time and boarded the first leg of our journey to Nashville. I found it very ironic that we were going to be in Nashville, were my missing wallet was sitting at a gas station but I didn't have a long enough layover to go get it. I spent the whole flight reading and ended up feeling super nauseous by the time we landed. I don't usually get motion sickness, but I think I was exhausted enough it didn't matter. Plus, airports are always so cold...I spent the layover stretched out along some chairs in the sun, trying to calm my stomach. By the time we boarded our flight to Austin I was feeling a bit better. It was a longer flight and I had the middle seat so I had trouble sleeping. I probably would have been okay if not for the turbulence. I made it until we'd deplaned and then rushed into the nearest restroom. Lovely start to the trip. But after that I was fine! Grant's parents picked us up and we headed immediately for San Antonio. I passed out in the car and didn't wake up until I heard them all arguing about where the Alamo was. There are signs everywhere once you get in the general vicinity, so we eventually figured it out. I hadn't been there in years, so I picked up some playing cards (my last set was lost in the fire) and a magnet for the fridge at work. We wandered around a little bit and read some of the panels, but no one was really interested in taking a tour or watching videos.
We went to Market Square next and ate lunch at this Mexican place that had more Christmas lights than I've ever seen on one building, inside or out! Seriously, I felt like I was dining inside a Christimas tree. The food was good, but the musicians wandering about the place kept trying to offer us music anytime we happened to accidentally look at one of them. We headed back to Austin after that. I slept in the car (sensing a theme here?) and bullied Grant into taking me to Chick-fil-A after we got back. |
